Injectable Treatments
Botox and Dysport are all considered different types of injectable neurotoxins that can help smooth and reduce wrinkles without the use of anesthesia. Both products are FDA-approved and considered safe to treat the appearance of wrinkles in the forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet and more. However, the manufacturing process of these three neurotoxins are unique to each product, which lends itself to some subtle differences. During a consultation, our expert medical providers will review your medical history, discuss your concerns, and recommend which neurotoxin is right for you.
Botox
What is Botox®?
Botox® is a neuromodulator derived from botulinum toxin and is a safe, effective way to address facial lines that occur from making repeated expressions. The treatment requires no downtime and results in very little discomfort, making it one of the country’s top cosmetic procedures for facial rejuvenation.
Why is Botox® so popular? This injectable is used to treat a variety of fine lines and wrinkles on the face, most often the following:
- Crow’s feet
- Frown lines between the eyebrows (11’s)
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Bunny lines on either side of the nose
- Neck lines or bands
Unlike injectable fillers, which restore volume by “filling in” facial lines and creases, Botox® works as a neuromodulator, meaning that it relaxes the muscles that form your everyday expressions. When you smile, frown, laugh, or look concerned or worried, the underlying facial muscles contract; over time, the lines and creases that result from these expressions become permanent.
Because Botox® relaxes the expression muscles responsible for wrinkles, it not only corrects current lines but also helps prevent future ones from forming. This makes Botox a great preventative treatment for aging.
What to expect from your Botox® procedure?
Our expert injectors use ultrafine needles when administering Botox® injections, which helps limit pain or discomfort, and you can see noticeable results in anywhere from four to seven days after treatment. Since the procedure is fast (typically between 20-30 minutes) and requires no downtime, you can expect little to no interruption to your day.
There are few if any side effects and they usually subside in as little as one to two days. You could experience mild bruising, swelling, redness, soreness, and a mild headache. Within four to seven days after your Botox® injection, you’ll begin to look more youthful and rejuvenated. What’s more, Botox® is so versatile that it can also soften a wide, square jawline and correct excessive sweating, migraines, and various muscle spasms.
And here’s something else: despite the fact that Botox® doesn’t work like a filler, you may find that a combination of Botox® and fillers could enhance your look! Talk to our providers about this and see how it can work for you.
Dysport
What is Dysport®?
Dysport® is an organic medication prescribed for Aesthetic use. This form of botulinum toxin has been FDA-approved as a neuromodulator since 2009, though it has been sanctioned and highly esteemed for this purpose in nearly 60 countries for almost 30 years. It has helped restore youthful looks for millions of patients, 97% of whom say they would use it again. The medication has been shown to affect a smoother, more rested face with fewer ‘hard’ lines. It has been used to treat neck creases, crow’s feet, frown lines, forehead folds, and more. Wrinkles aren’t your style, and “frozen face” isn’t either. For adults who want a natural look, there’s Dysport, a prescription injection proven to help smooth the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines without changing the look or movement of the rest of your face. Untreated muscles still work normally, so you can continue to express feelings naturally. It’s the lines that disappear, not your expressions.
How Does Dysport® Work?
Each session is virtually painless and less than 20 minutes. An experienced professional injects the medication into the specified area, where it blocks the chemical acetylcholine in the corresponding muscles. This invites the muscles to relax, lessening the prominence of wrinkles and resulting in a younger-looking appearance. The process necessitates no anesthesia, and little to no recuperation time is involved – patients can quickly return to their routines. Results manifest fully within 3-7 days, and once they do, they last for three to six months. Because of this temporary effect, we recommend two or three treatments per year. Please consult with our trained medical providers to choose what’s best for you!
What is the difference between a lip flip and lip fillers?
A lip flip and lip fillers are both procedures that make your lips look fuller.
Lip fillers are a type of dermal filler. Your healthcare provider injects hyaluronic acid (HA) into any or all parts of your lips to add volume. Your lips look immediately fuller after the procedure.
During a lip flip procedure, your healthcare provider injects Botox into parts of your upper lip. After about a week, the injections make your lip look fuller or “poutier” without adding any volume to your lip.
Lip flips generally look more natural than lip fillers.
People who opt for the lip flip procedure include those who:
- are hoping to achieve fuller lips without a dermal filler
- think their upper lip “disappears” when they smile
- want their smile to appear less gummy, which is when your smile shows more of your gums than you’d like

Kybella
KYBELLA® is the first and only FDA approved injectable drug (deoxycholic acid) that contours and improves the appearance of a double chin.
How Does Kybella Work?
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells, gradually over the span of several weeks. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.
Kybella is not recommended for individuals who have had or are planning to have facial surgery, have trouble swallowing, have an infection or a medical condition in or near the planned injection site. It is also advised for women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding to post-pone treatment
What is a Kybella procedure like?
We recommend for our patients to avoid drinking alcohol or taking any pain killers at least 48 hours before treatment, as these factors could increase bruising.
During the procedure, a numbing agent may be applied beneath the chin to ensure a more comfortable procedure. The targeted areas are then marked, and multiple small injections are made under the chin, usually ranging from 20 to 30, depending on the individuals desired profile. The deoxycholic acid will then gradually begin to destroy the fat cells. The procedure is quick, typically lasting an average of 15 to 20 minutes.
How many treatments will I need?
At Ari Blanc Med Spa, we recommend for our patients to receive multiple treatments, if needed, in order to reach optimum results. Each treatment session will be scheduled at least a month apart to allow for full healing. Many patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 treatment sessions.
How long will the results last?
When injected into the fat under your chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment with KYBELLA® is not expected.
What are the benefits to Kybella?
As a nonsurgical procedure, Kybella offers many benefits, those of which include an improved shape and contour of the jawline, minimal downtime, little risk and a quick procedure typically lasting 20 to 30 minutes.
What are the side effects?
Although some side effects are normal after treatment, they are temporary and should subside on their own within 1-2 weeks. These side effects may include hardening in the area of treatment, pain, numbness or bruising. Swelling may also be present post-treatment, as the swelling is an indication of the active medication breaking down the fat cells.
Treatments are personalized during an initial consultation in order to address the specific needs and goals of each patient. During treatment, the injectable Kybella solution is gently delivered to the treatment area through tiny injections. Once injected, the specialized Kybella solution works to target problem fat cells and destroy them. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they are removed from the body through the natural filtering process. In the weeks following treatment, as the body continues to remove the stubborn fat cells, you can drastically notice results for a slimmer facial structure and improved contour.
