What’s All the Hype with BBL HEROic & MOXI

at Ari Blanc Medical Spa in Philadelphia

Two of the hottest, most-talked-about treatments in the beauty industry right now are BBL HEROic and MOXI by Sciton. I have personally been getting a lot of inquiries both online and in-clinic lately here at Ari Blanc Medical Spa in Philadelphia, so—what is the big deal with HEROic and MOXI? Let’s talk about it!

Firstly, full disclosure—I am a bit of a Sciton stan. For good reason, though. As a company, they deliver not only the most incredible, state-of-the-art, advanced technology on the market, but they also provide incredible training, service, and amazing opportunities to continue to grow and learn as a practitioner.

Anyone who works closely with this company and their devices has extensive training and support in an industry where this is extremely rare. I could go on, but the point is that these two treatments come from the incredibly advanced and creative force behind Sciton. They are the best—always expect the top in the industry from them.

Let’s Start with BBL HEROic

Photofacials have long been a gold standard in the treatment of sun damage, broken vessels, and superficial redness. Traditional IPL (Intense-Pulsed Light), however, is a fairly outdated technology at this point. It’s not very customizable in terms of filtering wavelengths, the motionless handpiece causes quite a bit of striping, there’s a huge risk with pulse stacking, and the protocols create too strong an epidermal impact with an increased risk of burning.

Classic BBL (BroadBand Light) was Sciton’s first iteration and improvement on traditional photofacials. Using Sciton’s custom protocols (which he created), Dr. Patrick Bitter conducted a Stanford study in which he was able to prove that BBL treatments actually change the expression of genes associated with the aging process to more closely resemble young skin. So we are not only creating a cosmetic change by erasing sun damage and redness—we are providing a functional change as well.

Already way ahead of the game, Sciton continued to re-evaluate their already superior technology and a few years ago rolled out BBL HERO or “High Energy Rapid Output” technology. HERO really changed the game by introducing an in-motion handpiece, which allows for an even more effective and efficient treatment. No one thought Sciton was going to top HERO anytime soon, but this past year they introduced their new HEROic technology—which is the Rolls Royce…the Tesla of pulsed light devices.

HEROic, which stands for “High Energy Rapid Output with Intelligent Control”, has literally shifted us into a new age in aesthetics technology. The Autodynamic Pulsing capability of HEROic promotes the most consistent, safe, and effective treatments on all surfaces. It helps to eliminate technique issues, reduces treatment time, enhances patient comfort, and ensures accurate and consistent treatment experiences. A lot of words to simply say: BBL technology is superior to all IPL technologies, HERO is better than BBL, but HEROic—is the GOAT.

At Ari Blanc Medical Spa in Philadelphia, we are thrilled to offer BBL HEROic treatments to help you achieve radiant, youthful skin.

Now Let’s Talk About MOXI

Okay—now let’s talk about MOXI. I love, love, love MOXI. Once again, Sciton took a laser wavelength that has been used on plenty of other devices in the past and has made all of those devices obsolete. TRULY.

MOXI is a 1927 nm resurfacing wavelength. In the past, 1927 nm has been used for super-light treatments with little to no impact. Not MOXI. This device is VERY tunable. I could do a super-light treatment on one patient who has a busy schedule and needs minimal downtime, but I can also do a deeper, denser treatment on another patient that has them peeling for 5–7 days because they are ready to knock out some pigment and texture issues. The versatility is incredible and helps to deliver customized results to each individual.

It is safe on literally all skin types, and it is safe to do in the sunny summer months here in Philadelphia. It has become a go-to in my treatment of melasma, which I have never said of a laser before. Another thing that is really great about a treatment like MOXI is that it is a great gateway into laser treatments for younger patients who may not have as many large skin concerns but are getting into what I call “prejuvenation”. It has a lower price tag and downtime than something like Halo but still packs a punch, building collagen and helping to maintain soft, youthful texture and tone.

At Ari Blanc Medical Spa, we are proud to offer MOXI treatments to our Philadelphia clients seeking effective skin resurfacing solutions.
